High Point has started a new coin club dubbed the Triad Coin Club. The club was established in November, 2018. President Robert Ward stated their goal was to sign up 20 new members within their first year. The club already boasts 45 members! Residents of High Point, Winston Salem, Lexington, as well Statesville and Reidsville have joined thus far. In addition to Robert Ward as President, the club’s other officers are Leon Little in the role of Vice-President, Teresa Dickens as Secretary/Treasurer, with Chip Furr and Paul Adkins as board members.
The club hosts a monthly meeting on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 7 pm, at the Spring Hill United Methodist Church, located at 240 Spring Hill Church Road, High Point, NC 27265. Auction preview starts at 6 pm. In addition to the auction at each meeting, there is a 50/50 raffle. 50% of the raffle money goes towards refreshments and other expenses, and 50% goes towards prizes. Four silver eagles were given away at the last meeting!
Bill Brewer, past NCNA president and longtime NCNA board member, has been extremely helpful in getting the fledgling coin club up and running. Two local coin shops have also been instrumental. Jim Green from Coins n’ Stuff in High Point, and Dale Ayers from Carolina Coin & Trading Company in Winston Salem, have donated over $600 in coins for the raffles and posted flyers in their shops. The local newspaper, High Point Enterprises, published several articles that helped attract members. It truly takes a village!
Charter membership f or $20.00 is available through the end of 2019. Charter members are eligible for lifetime membership for only $10.00 per year, as well as one extra raffle at each meeting attended. Contact Robert Ward by phone at (336) 862-0802 or email at rward0789@yahoo.com if interested in becoming a member.
The first annual Triad Coin Club show will take place on Saturday, June 15th, from 10am – 5pm at the same Spring Hill United Methodist Church location as the club meetings. Hope to see you there!
